Magic Lanterns - Kensington Palace

Date

October 2017

Location

Kensington Palace, London

Role

Lead Artist

Project type

Public Art - engagement

I led a half term workshop at Kensington Palace, commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces, aimed at helping young visitors grasp the significance of the Georgian Magic Lantern on display in the museum. I created handmade cardboard magic lanterns using household materials so that participants of all ages could use the Magic Lanterns to craft animations reminiscent of the Georgian era. Using marker pens on acetate strips, they drew backgrounds, which, when passed through the Magic Lantern, projected animations onto walls. Visitors were also encouraged to experiment with filming the animations on their mobile phones. This project was part of the Big Draw 2017
