Year 6 Protest Art

ArtJohn worked with four classes in Year 6 at Manorfield Primary School to create a series of protest banners inspired by their topic Champions For Change. The pupils explored typography and typographic tecniques as a way of presenting coherent and succinct powerful messages and were inspired by the work of Bob & Roberta Smith.

Pupils started the project by learning how to create their own typeface, using masking tape stencil techniques as well as drop shadows and 2-point perspective lettering. This led to the overall designs of each banner (one for each class) with the individual classes coming up with their own message during their literacy and P4C lessons.

The banners were painted onto MDF boards using acrylic paint and a variety of stencilling techniques. They are now displayed outside of their classrooms.
